How Basic Camping Safaris Work with KiliTracks Adventures

 Camping Tanzania safari

At KiliTracks Adventures, we offer budget/basic camping safaris in Tanzania’s northern parks as an affordable and adventurous way to experience the wilderness.

What to Expect

On a camping safari, you travel with your driver-guide and a professional cook who prepares fresh meals each day. We provide all camping gear including two-person dome tents, foam mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows, chairs, and a dining table. After game drives, you’ll return to a campsite (inside or near the park) where tents are set up, dinner is served, and you spend the night under the stars.

Campsites We Use

• Serengeti (Central) – Public campsites in Seronera
• Ngorongoro Crater – Simba Campsite on the rim (inside park)
• Manyara – Private campsite just outside the park (inside option at extra cost)
• Tarangire – Private campsite outside the park (inside option at extra cost)
• Ndutu – Simba Campsite on the crater rim (closest public campsite to Ndutu)
• North Serengeti – Lobo public campsite

Meals

Three meals daily are prepared by your cook. Breakfast and dinner are served at the campsite, while lunch is usually a packed picnic inside the park. We supply 2 liters of drinking water per client per day. Extra drinks or snacks can be purchased before the trip.

Facilities

Campsites have shared washrooms and kitchen areas. Facilities are basic and hot showers are not always guaranteed.
At night, animals may roam near camps inside the parks, which adds excitement but also requires caution. Charging ports are available in our safari vehicles.

Things to Consider

• Space in vehicles is more limited due to camping gear.
• Comfort is lower compared to lodges: shared facilities, smaller tents, and less privacy.
• Rainy season (March–May) makes camping less comfortable due to mud and moisture.
• Price savings are usually 10–20% compared to lodge safaris, especially on itineraries including Serengeti.

Who It’s For

Budget camping safaris are best for backpackers and adventurous travelers who want a close-to-nature experience at a lower price. For families with small children or those seeking extra comfort, we recommend tented camps or lodges.
